Enjoyed your class on the data recovery for a dead laptop. I was able to connect my old hard drive via the enclosure but I am having trouble accessing the files because of the Windows Permissions. I was looking on your site for additional info but couldn’t find any.

Would you be able to provide me with instructions to get around the Windows Permissions issue so I can access the drives files.

    Thanks sooo much…..

You have to take “Ownership” of the folder and all files below. It’s pretty easy. If yo do a Google search for taking ownership you should be able to find a point by point set of instructions.

    Cheers,
    Eli

    Q. my Wd external HD wont run or start up, you said this procedure will work most times, when wont it work? a swap meets tech savvy guy said it seems to be a logic card problem, as he put the drive into his tower & it shorted his tower, was this the wrong thing to do? If i put this in a enclosure & connect via the usb how will it run if the motor in the HD is not running? help help I have pics that I want to retrieve? ta bev

Sounds like your hard drive itself it dead…. basically you’ll hae to send it off to a company like Drive Savers and pay $2000. If a part on the hard drive itself fails it’s almost impossible for an individual or small shop to fix.

  • bev says:

Yeh well there is no sound or feel of vibrations when its on, So If I got a new logic card( the green board inside) you think that it will not make the motor start up? What makes the motor run then?
    This is really bad news!!!!!!!!!!!
    regards bev
